Wintarnaht
In Âgez
Talheim Records
I`ve heard music of Wintarnaht before, on their split album entitled Unterweltmysterien which is released with Austrian horde Varulv. In Âgez (in oblivion) is the third, stand alone album from Wintarnaht, recorded as a trio, the line up was as follow: Grimwald –vocals, keyboards, guitars, Goatruler on drums and ArdathBey on bass.
In Âgez is a black metal album of epic feel in parts of the songs where in some tracks you can hear minor melodies, however, nothing really that catchy to memorize it. Album is once atmospheric, with keyboards enchanted to the harsh sound of the band, other time Wintarnaht just go fast and play raw and archaic songs that bring you darker and angrier black metal that they play frequently on this record. Album is over one hour long so they take make sure that music is aggressive and atmospheric, not necessarily at the same time. Shrieking black metal vocals just sounds like they suppose to in black metal path, but Winternaht is quite in pagan metal realm as well - it is expressed by a pagan-barbaric chants from Grimwald that sometimes sound like a wolf howl to the moon. So, I'm glad this album has a bit more to offer than just black metal songs, and to my convenience, I think that In Âgez has its small time climaxes in both harsh and melodic parts of the album, song writing is decent but not great yet.
