When Icarus Falls
Resilence
Czar Of Bullets
Switzerland is the country that I know most post metal bands from and quite frankly, I can say it is really great region for this kind of music. This might be because I do not have many comparisons I can do to other bands or it just might be true. I mean, nobody knows for sure, if you mind enormous amount of music that spreads over the world, every day and nobody is able to follow it all. So, I am having those few bands I like their records to come back to, play them again, and always find something new out of it.
When Icarus Falls has an opportunity to become one of those bands but I do not rush things knowing only one of their albums.
Music of Resilence is universal and timeless. They wing freshness of modern music towards me and I appreciate sensations they bring to me. They do not sound like a bunch of new dudes as they already have number of different releases behind the band history. Some titles include records like Over The Frozen Seas, Aegean and Circles. That`s the experience they have and they use it for greater song writing which is this album. It is their newest offer with just 5 songs but those 41 minutes is what I needed to build clearer picture of their music and accept it. That goes with the sound which is distinctive, clear, well defined by the band that connects alternative rock/cold wave/and soft metal and/or post metal so it makes sense.
Opening track is an example of what I just wrote except it has a little acoustic oriental influence that goes throughout the song which is a nice gem. It actually is very good track to start off the album that give you taste of many transitions that they are capable of doing with music.
Second one is more like a trance and engaging more intensity to the song as it goes. Metal vocals feature here for the first time.
The Lighthouse is a third one on the tracklist and is very emotional piece even if begins like a relaxation song. After a short while they proceed with heavier riffs and increase the temperature of the song. This track is a drifter and have both screamed and sort of declamation vocals.
S/T song is an instrumental one and is a calmer part of Resilence. A dreamer, and tranquillity for the album.
A Blue Light involves stronger, emotional side of the music once again but this time by more profound vocals (Nergal`s O father O satan O son seems accurate to mention). Instrumental approach by the band is also harder than other tracks. The song is changing into many forms of expression, evolving and boiling under pressure of different music ideas it has. It is most diverse track of the album and my personal best.
In my opinion Resilence has advantage of heavy dark/gothic/rock elements over post metal but also have notions and inclinations of metal, not much sound of it. It is not that much of importance. What is, it`s pretty good album!
Relative bands: Khaldera, This Cold
Band Members:
Diego Mediano: vocals
Yann Cottier: guitar
Luis Cordeiro: guitar
Claude Humbert-Droz: bass
Xavier Gigandet: drums & keyboards
