Vitam Et Mortem
El Río De La Muerte
Satanath Records/Exhumed Records
After cinematic intro, comes a track Los Cuerpos En El Río that brings melodic guitar leads in style of black/death metal and keyboards, in which, you can hear the band`s darker, ethnic music influences. In La Danza de Los Gallinazos or Plegaria A Los Muertos, the pace of the music is mid-fast, they still giving the music a charisma and melo-aggressive metal in songs, but there is always some brutality to it that goes along.... Growls on the album sound pretty raw, and a vocalist of the band sings with quite a splendour (Aqueronte), and you can sense therein an excitement and savagery (so significant to South American bands) in those vocals. The album also features choruses or clean singing that make the music sounds much better (another melodic layer in their music that gives the band their own personality). The album sound a half melodic, a half sinister, directions of the band remains extreme, they play those guitar leads and solos, as well as ethnic vocalizations, with proper dose of aggression. Also, their songs sound dynamic, there are signs in tracks where music starts to sound catchy, and surely, it`s quite chaotic as well.
More intense and heavier song is El Animero where rhythm guitar carries the heaviness of the music, and melodic vocals here, have something of gothic style, spookier-some moments. Slow and atmospheric track is Nomen Nescio, which consists of spoken-ritualistic vocals. More death metal, complex guitar play, and more brutal vocals are part of the song called Yo Soy El Siguiente Muerto.
It`s not the album of a single music genre, it`s more a gathering of blackened death metal influences in songs of the band, with a bit of their national folk influences (of evil nature). As for me, those Colombians play less similar to European bands, which is what make a difference in plus, when I listen the album.
Last track is a cover song of legendary death metal band Masacre - for those of you who might remember them from old days...
