Torment
Occult
Great Dane Records
Formed in 2017, Torment from France is just releasing their first album Occult.
It`s death metal album, with core influences, and some thrasier guitar work. It`s old school record mixed with modern influences. There is however one thing in their music that sound very old school which are brutal snarls from the vocalist who sounds like a man that just turned into zombie - no compromises in his growls, if you exclude few vocal experimentations which this album have. Band plays intense songs with drum cascades, fast tempos are mixed with chunky riffs, which create groove death metal assault and brutality of sound. Music has an energy you could expect from young band like Torment. They play very energetic and severe songs, other time more melodic tracks - solos and guitar ideas. It`s aggressive album when guitar shreds are more in style of thrash metal, and there are heavier songs when slam death metal collide with death core (some mechanical rhythms) which create an explosive mixture of groove death metal with brutal thrash/death. Songs are melodic here and there, but surely, music of Torment has tons of grooves, which is very much a sign of our times in metal. Not a perfect album, and not a bad either.
Best song in my opinion: Swarm
