The Initiation
Misanthropic Litany
Mara Production
This is black metal record, and it sounds like one too, though the band added some death metal elements to the songs that can be recognized in the heavier guitar riffs, eventually.
The songs were recorded at usual, standard tempos - from middle to fast and very fast. The band sounds cold and fierce in fast paces. In a medium tempo, they captured some melodies and mesmerizing guitar work, which is best feature of this album in my opinion, when it happens. Album consists of solid, selective sound that allows me to catch details in their songs, which is positive aspect in the production of this album.
The slower riffs sound crushing and sometimes melodic, although when it comes to catchy guitar chords, the band is still learning how to play it at a better level. However, there are few riffs that fall into my ears nicely, which you can find out in songs mentioned in the end of this review.
When it comes to drumming, there is a well-balanced dose of blast beats, and a lot of simple but well-technically played drumming. Shrieking vocals sound like a standard black metal thing.
Misanthropic Litany is an ordinary black metal album, performed and produced to a good standard. The band does not stand out from other bands because they still lack their own musical identity. Although, if to put that theory aside for a moment, I think Misanthropic Litany is a decent album, with few black metal songs worth spinning: The Thunder of My Roaring Howl, His Wolves, His Hearts or The Rite Of The Black Flame.
