Terminal Carnage
The Sickening Rebirth
Great Dane Records
Terminal Carnage is a German duo who debuts with their first album for Great Dane Records. The band's music is a decent sounding old school death metal. The songs don't really contain anything new for the genre, but the album's sickly lyrical content about future technological shocks that by assumption will be caused by upcoming and more sophisticated solutions in modern technology will also emerge new diseases upon humanity as they break down the boundaries and rules. Singer's raw, guttural grunts are things that piqued my interest around this album even more. However, there is no musical fluency in this record – some faster and in minority guitar shreds that they play throughout the album do not sound like it`s what fit much to the band`s music. Fortunately, the album when sounds heavier and played at middle pace is getting better, and sort of starting to sound atmospheric while music is brutally crushing (Bereaved Cry), raw and guitar tone is half crunchy. Better song is Dead Mass (The Doom Of Mankind) where Terminal Carnage added here some melodies which brought some doomy creeps to the music, or like in song Least Evil, the atmosphere of old school death metal is delivered in more profound manner. If I had to compare them to other bands, I`d say that their song writing transcends some influences from Obituary, Autopsy, Necrophagia in the core of their music...On the surface, the band has some noteworthy musical ideas that differ them from other old school death metal releases.
Drumming on the album is good but beats do not sound organic, guitars-play is interesting enough to get me into music (I like songs where rhythm and lead guitarists play in differences). I get an impression that the style of the band is still constrained and more like in development; however some of their songs on this very album might be a singles that represent the album best. For me those could be death/doom track Years Of Demise (Paradise Lost meets rough death metal) or perhaps a faster song at places, which is Involuntary Organ Donor. Diverse vocals, as it is in the track called Chaos The New World Oder are just strong feature of this record overall.
Songs of The Sickening Rebirth are well done but music of the band is not any surprise at all, when I think of death metal in general.
