Sweeping Death
In Lucid
Independent
Sweeping Death is based in Germany and it`s their debut album with 9 different songs on the track list. The band is trying to define their music as progressive metal, but it does not really say much about all their music. In my opinion they play often unconventionally and influences go beyond progressive music.
In few songs the band has used only piano which bring to mind Chopin and perhaps other composers. I mention this because these piano songs - Eulogue, Chiromantist sound really amazing. Of course, all other tracks are much about metal which is more what I expected to hear in this album.
If you listen to Blues Funeral you can hear them playing nice ,groove`y metal based on guitar chords. Vocal lines are coolly arranged and singer picks up his vocals on fine melodies.
I noticed that two songs - Horror Infernal, Antitecture have fragmentary common elements with one and only band Mekong Delta. So, you could say that Sweeping Death also derives from progressive thrash metal in benefit of their music. Apart from that, Sweeping Death performs music almost completely without thinking of how other bands do it. At least, I find their songs sound original, innovative at points and surprising when I was not expecting it.
This album has a larger connection to classical music than you would expect. A few times (but long enough to accept a fact), some guitar structures sound neoclassical. In order to capture these moments, you need to turn on the right mindset and think about classical music as a key word. Of course it happens only from time to time when thoughts about classical composers cross your mind but what I mean is that In Lucid you can find synergy between classical music and metal that is unique. You can only see it when you engage in listening to their music and gradually discover its significance and song ideas.
They constantly bring a complexity of technical and progressive metal where you can recognize obvious hints to thrash and power metal. At the same time, they keep music firmly understandable for better reception.
On average, it's mid-paced album, but it's better because it gives you more time to enjoy yourself in beautiful world of not only progressive metal but something more. Check all the songs to find out about this - definitely.
I am glad to tell you that in luxury of their music I find my mind`s harmony which is why I like this album so much.
