Survive
Immortal Warriors
Sliptrick Records
Survive is a Japanese death metal band.
Already an opening song Degenerate showcases a powerful sound of the album. The track sounds very heavy, guitar work is from slow to medium with type of crushing riffs. Beside melodic guitar solo, the band did not showed yet that they are about to play much more melodies in next tracks...
Wrath is an energetic death metal song with thrash metal guitar lead and few faster drum beats. Vocalist of the band sings with growls to this point of the album.
Immortal Warriors is a game changer. It`s a rhythmic death metal song and Survive brings some power metal element to the music which are clean, very melodic choruses that make a refrain of the song. It's a track that would probably raise the morale of the warriors in the upcoming battle which seems like one of those Japanese thing about honor...
Tears Of The Victims is a brutal song with few killer riffs and it`s just so great that they continue doing those melodic vocals which save this record of being just a death metal album.
Killing Field sounds convincing with all those layered guitars and some original vocal expressions.
Intense, technical, brutal&melodic guitar riffs are what`s best for a track Your Own Army Corps.
Programmed Slaves - a combo of thrashy and sweeping guitar riffs, some shreds bring a glimpse of black metal to the music.
Wither My Dying Blood in a first half of the song is a fast, angry and aggressive track with both harsh and normal vocals until, in a second half of the track, the band turned music towards darker and atmospheric areas with more importance to sound of keyboard. From this point on, Survive has began playing much more atmospheric tunes which is what also happens in heavy, guitar driven song: Control The Darkness.
Blood And Sacrifice is a majestic death metal song with keyboard backgrounds, melodic vocals and dense, double bass drumming which is what drummer plays often throughout the album.
It`s not only title track that stands out, I am listening to other songs of the band with interest too. I think that influences for album Immortal Warriors come from European metal scenes (Carcass, Behemoth, In Memoriam) but certainly, there are Japanese elements in music that merges it all.
It might be a little strange to write but music of this band would not be that good if their death metal lacked power metal elements and vice versa. Also, they do not push their musicianship to technical perfection, like having just a good, catchy song was better for them. It certainly sounds better for me.
Survival covered Metallica`s song Master Of Puppets which if I am not wrong, features only on Sliptrick`s version of the album. They recorded the song faithfully to the original and it came out really great!
