Straight Hate
Every Scum Is A Straight Arrow
Deformeathing Production
I do not know if anybody reading this text realizes that Polish grind core has own identity and independent view on subject of sounds and how unearthly brutality it often brings with every new production. For me, the style of Polish grind is pretty much defined but infinite and still develops the methods of unbelievable torture of various sounds. Bands like Dead Infection, Squash Bowels, Epitome have managed the way of grind in this country throughout decades and they proved it by releasing number of the goriest, sickest and visually disgusting albums of all time. In some cases, technically and musically just brilliant(Antigama).
Straight Hate is a young band on the scene but their debut album which I review now leaves no prisoners. Short instrumental song that kicks off the album is introduction to distinct production, very good musicianship and grind core with no boundaries. The band has slight death metal elements but they rather butcher death metal to get possibly best grind effect than using its influences. Grindcore legends from Napalm Death has that ability to compose best off of grind core genre but they are not that far from death metal even if it`s not that obvious. Straight Hate has that nicely in common with this British band but song writing process is completely different which is good on behalf of both bands, of course.
This is a list of songs that measure the band`s grind core on Every Scum Is A Straight Arrow to best possible outcome;
Beautiful Slut, Lovely Family, Disagreement, Corporation, Extinction. ; I think these mentioned are most representatives for Straight Hate with Napalm Death vibe in it and characteristic Polish sound-morbidly heavy and brutal but also funny sounding , hopefully.
All other songs are reminiscence of everything what`s happening in grind core, punk, industrial nowadays. They do not look back too much in the past for inspirations because production of the album is modern, really massive and in your face.
Like every valuable album this one has lots of drum beats, slower grinding moments, fast and relentless guitar tracks. Average of the songs is over 1 minute long, I guess, so you can imagine sonic massacre they can spread over the whole record very quickly.
I must admit that vocals are done superbly well. There are two types of singing here and it has feeling there are 2 persons using microphone in the band but they are not! Kuba, the only vocalist for the band has left huge amount of energy doing his parts and it works out for the album extremely good.
Instead of lyrics on the booklet they used only titles of the songs and different pictures to showcase a personal meaning of each song by his author. They obviously turned smart and let you interpret everything on your own which idea I like very much
It`s one of the best grind core albums this year and they still did not show their huge potential as yet.
