Souls Demise
Angels Of Darkness
Ragnarök Records
Music of Souls Demise has been dug out by Ragnarök Records but the band is no longer active on the scene since 2011. This Chicago area thrash metal band had recorded only studio demo materials between years 2002-2009. The idea for this album was to gather all that Souls Demise music and release it as a compilation CD which actually happened in 2017.
There are couple of demos on this album and every of those records have different vocalist ... It`s kind of difficult to have any decisive opinion on a band that has never had stability from a frontman, by whom the band could had been better known or recognized by.
In 2002 the band entered a studio to record 4 songs (12-15 on tracklist) demo - Angels Of Darkness with vocalist Jamie Pokusa who was singing with clean vocals, occasionally screams. Quiet strangely, one year after (already with new singer –Mike Nowicki), Souls Demise recorded this demo again with better sound and additional guitar tracks (songs 1-4). Mike`s vocal`s are harsh on this sessions with some melodic lines, however not that much. I do not have favourite singer to this point but certainly, the fact of having so many frontmans by this band in the past, made them sound every time differently. From that period of time, songs like Angels Of Darkness and Black Widow are the highlights. Musically, band played thrash metal with some heavy metal influences and a lot of guitar solos.
It has had to be nightmare for the band to went through so many line-up changes over the years but in 2006 it happened again on a position of frontman. A new singer was Randy Barron (Tyrant`s Reign, Winterkill) and you can hear his voice in tracks 5-8 which completed their new demo. I think it`s heavier and more melodic time for the band with more power metal input in songs but sound was not too good. Even calling it a demo not justify a fact that sound from this band should get better production each time they have entered a studio to record new tracks. I hear that song Fate Has A Reason is a combination of Nevermore/Intrinsic and seems that Souls Demise attempted to play some grunge-power thrash groove metal mix in those songs, maybe, to get more radio plays.
Andre Almaraz was fourth and the last frontman who joined the band in 2008. With him behind the microphone, they recorded 3 songs demo. With charismatic vocals a`la Lemmy (Motorhead) their music has taken a turn towards more traditional heavy metal songs, even if song Disappear is completely in opposite, and except fine, opening riffs that they repeat later on, it`s just a bad thrash metal song.
...And few final words from me about this collector`s album...I say yes (!) for era of both Angels Of Darkness demos – good mix of old school heavy/thrash. Demo with Randy has its long, good moments of music and pretty good melodies. Also tracks Second To None and No Tommorow are decent tunes.
In 2011, during recording session of full length album, Souls Demise has disbanded and left off no new music.
