Sons Of Morpheus

I am in need to write about opening track first, even if it`s only instrumental one, this song is a bloody vigilante. The beginning of it is very western like - Kill Bill type of music as it is in Tarantino movie soundtracks. As song title suggests; the music, from its wild west rhythms is getting more tense, and later on, they lead the song to collision course, which is a doom that ends this 3 plus minutes song. It`s the track that amazes me and it`s my personal best song of the record.
Sons Of Morpheus comes from Switzerland and now, I am going to stick some labels to my words, just to let you know, briefly, what the band`s music is about. So here are some clues then. There is a bit of everything in their songs. A dirt of stoner - which is a sound and majority of music, psychedelic guitar vibrations, alternative metal - its flexibility and melodies, country and blues – superb symbiosis between bass and drums where the band does a lot of improvisations (Paranoid Reptiloid, Slave), and even grunge - which is not that much in sound but in instrumental arrangements, and in vocals too (Sphere). If agree that 70-80`s Black Sabbath albums are classic heavy metal which I think they are, then Sons Of Morpheus has some of its vintage vibe too – particularly in rhythmic section of bass and drums - again. It`s a stylistic jam of music styles, which Sons Of Morpheus works out for the band pretty wisely. You may do not notice at once but the songs are very interesting to hear in because they sound very organic, I feel that time do not really matter when I play the tracks. The music of the band is driven by dusty / rusty production, which is perfect by nature of stoner music, but what it does more, is sound that is authentic and many times even jazzy. Of course, it`s studio album but has very LIVE event atmosphere to it which is really cool.
I already mentioned my favorite, instrumental track but they do a good job on the entire album actually, and songs like Loner, Paranoid Reptiloid, Nowhere To Go and Sphere are hard to resist. Great album that should end up high on many rankings at the end of the year, including my list, if I write one...
Other (un)similar artists Roamer, Nirvana...
Tracklist:
1 Doomed Cowboy
2 Loner
3 Paranoid Reptiloid
4 Nowhere To Go
5 Sphere
6 Slave (Never Ending Version)
