Skinweaver
Gratification Eternal
Great Dane Records
It`s exciting how band like Skinweaver has inherited some 90`s death metal influences in their music and still have very refreshing elements in all that old school sound. Something ticked in my head when I played the album and the names like Autopsy, Necrophagia, Entrails have popped up spontaneously and I am not even sure why.
What I find very original in Gratification Eternal is the way they compose their songs with guitar chords and harmonies but not that much shreds which is surprising when use a term death metal.
The album sounds brutally decent, obscene and dirty like many 90`s albums with cheesy, horror themes. The songs are polluted by several sick melodies and rough vocals but they eventually sound familiar to something you know from the past death metal albums. I do not find it wrong on this particular record because they are quite persuasive with their skull crushing death metal riffs and gruesome ideas for songs that work out for me just fine. With the whole cocktail of extreme metal they prepared here I think that either fans of European/Scandinavian and American death metal should be content to lay down their ears on some songs from this solid album.
