Shodan
Protocol Of Dying
Defense/Deformeathing
First things first. I will be reviewing an album that can be easily placed in top 10 metal albums this year. I mean it`s not only one of the best rated albums from Poland but also should get them lots of sympathy and appreciation from everywhere basically.
I knew almost nothing about the band until the day comes to finally play songs. From what I have dug about the band so far their vocalist-guitarist is a member of Banisher which is another band with great album just out. It won’t be surprise for most of you having interest in Polish death metal if I write that all these bands along with Decapitated play their technical death metal on common music ground and their tunes are granting superiority of music. In my opinion movement of these is building up stronger, undeniable identity and the quintessence of Polish death metal as its best.
Protocol Of Dying consists 8 original band compositions in a manner of complex death metal with slight influences from sludge and post-metal.
First song called Shrine kicks off furiously with blast drum beats adding more heaviness and brutal riffs as song goes on.
Next Immaculate Deception becomes one of my first of many favourites on the album, at once. Guitar shreds and few amazing leading (!!!) riffs making this track like no other and it`s just beautifully intense. Decapitated has their Spheres Of Madness flag song but Shodan`s Immaculate Deception is the one you expect to hear from every death metal release. Very memorable song and no shit, top death metal composition this year!
Next one is This World Means Nothing and sucking on blood of Satanist by Behemoth in most parts and I have nothing against it! Atmospheric tension is amazing in this song. Those are great music notes and Shodan made it work for themselves pretty cool.
No Dignity mixing post and thrash metal influences giving it groundbreaking death metal twist and they are very music wise putting it together. Yes people, it`s another killer song from Shodan.
La Reine Du Bal has more technical approach, some experiments on vocals, lot of guitar shreds, freaking rhythms and even has a sweet sound of piano that ends the song.
Nails song starts fast in the beginning but turning into more melodic tunes and they are very unpredictable toward the end of the track.
7th on the list is Beloved Manticore groovy death metal killer that wipes out the way to the final which is a song called Protocol of dying. It`s one of the most diverse song with very interesting vocal lines. An absolute climax for the album!
Shodan is a type of band with bunch of great riffs on the whole record and they are gifted to pick up only best bits to present their band. It`s really hard to resist such mature, successive songs from the young band. A must have album!
