Scratches
Rundown
Czar Of Crickets Prod.
Scrathes is a band from Switzerland with a female singer behind the microphone. Her voice however reminds me of Leonard Cohen (RIP). Rundown is a pop album and music will always takes you from one dark place to the next, like in a black and white film where differences make light intensity and shadow play. The album is superb intense on an emotional level in both music and vocals where words are type of narrative mixed with singing depth. The music has a mainly slow pace, dark sound and ideas which are devoid of hope, happiness is clouded and out of reach, but with a pinch of optimism in some lyrics of songs.
The track Charon is a monolith of darkness that reaches its zenith here - music wise. Sorry sounds like a musical black cabaret which take me by catchy rhythms and the song just feels completed, very mature. In my opinion Sorry is the best piece on the album. The other song is Rundown with dream-like leads and instrumental layers. Virgin Tree sounds kind of personal – lyrically, but it`s the good song where you can sense the light as symbol of something positive (present but rare feeling on the record).
Rundown sounds very like European album which in this case is a sentimental dark pop, where every instrument make a difference.
