Russian Death Metal Vol. 4
Darknagar Records
I am pretty sure that it is my first Russian compilation CD that consist various death metal bands. I always despite nationality of bands because you never know what turns you on or will make you your day so damn good. In fact, this CD has really killer sounding bands and fucking brutal music all over the place. I am sure everybody will find few bands that you may want to check out if you need a new name that destroys your death metal shelf. Of course, on this compilation I found few names that will torture senses of my enemies around, while for me, their music is as natural as breathing the air. Ok, let`s get started, shall I?
First band is a killer. Should be, right? It is opening track from one man band Kraworath. You should get good, first impression on release you want to play and on 100% I got it from this band. It is not a joke. This brutal death metal song sounds like it was a band with full line up and million dollars covered for studio production. Killer sounding and really fucking brutal death metal with super ideas on music. Hard to believe that all it`s been done by just one guy with name Roman Kartashov in home studio.
As far as I reckon, there are no more one-man projects on the CD and these are some of them:
Autumn Aurora which is a next band is a progressive death metal and the song except good sound and song writing, has many interesting guitar passages and some melodies , also without distortions .
Number 3 (always look at tracklist if band is not mentioned) is technical death metal with aggressive vocals and very active drumming. Occasionally they slow down and keep music refreshed.
Next band has a Russian name which is translated as Monsalvat. It`s combination of technical death metal and death metal. Not the best vocals I`ve heard but I can appreciate a decency of the song.
Educated Scum is holding brutality within grind core and death metal genres but pretty much, they lean toward modern music approach . Good vocals and intensity.
Next (6), has very weird band`s name, at least hard to pronounce the word. It`s technical death core with screaming vocals and good level of musicianship.
Clangforge balancing death and death core with aggressive and brutal vocals. A sound is low tuned.
Necropozitive sounds demo wise and it`s slam death mixed with grind core and extreme vocals.
Poghost`s track also has a production of a demo song. The track is mid paced, has dirty sounding death metal with simple riffs like it was in 90`s Scandinavian, underground scene.
Putrefaction is a brutal death, slam death metal with simple riffs but fast drumming and rotting growl vocals.
Vonnegut is fast and brutal death metal for fans of Angel Corpse, Order From Chaos with good vocals and guitar shreds. Spirit of old school death metal is in the song but slightly accelerated by modern sound.
Next stop is a band that has a track called Smell Of Napalm. Massive sounding death metal with deep growls. An average, heavy death metal song.
Amakan is a little experimental death metal with decent vocals and chaotic strong structures. Vocals are not much convincing, just sounds strange as music sometimes.
Number 14th is a typical death metal song from the band Garwagor. The song is a bit melodic, some heaviness on guitars. The track sound like they stuck in 90`s era with a bit awkward song writing approach.
Atrahasis is a quite interesting band that sounds like crossover of Prophecy Of Doom and Blasphemy. Except very solid, death metal singing, they also experiment with some clean vocals which sound original and unique but not death metal. The music on the other hand is dark and obscure and very death metal but with a bit of experiments to the sound if you focus on this aspect. I am going to dig this band to find out more music and albums, definitely.
Gutted Bride is another technical and brutal death metal in the vein of Deeds Of Flesh and Cannibal Corpse. Good sound, extreme vocals, crazy drumming and interesting work of guitars make them very good band.
Morger base their music on heavy but melodic sounding guitars. They have mid and fast rhythms and a bit of music technicality to the music. Vocals reminds a bit of Chris Burnes` (Six Feet Under) voice frequencies.
The last band has very good sound, deep grows and heavy sounding guitars. As many bands on this compilation they play on the age of death metal slam death and technical death metal but it`s just all good, including this track from Psychosurgical Intervention.
It`s fantastic compilation. Great bands with European and American approach but with Russian thinking-to make music possibly and fairy complicated which I like a lot. Very good stuff, check it out.
