Runika
S/T
Independent CD EP
...And here is another Slavic folk metal band. They are Warsaw based and I wonder where inspirations come from to bands like Runika. Just interesting thing is how to reach the core of folk when your everyday life is surrounding by traffic and a cruelty noise of car rush.
Whatever it is, opening song is very vocal leading and all instrumentation goes background. The song is dark, more gothic nature and their female vocalists Aminae has a warm voice that respond nicely to my senses throughout the whole record. As the CD plays on with Polish lyrics only, next song is Wiking and reveals more band efforts so it is more guitar now, melodic metal, good lyrics. Biesiada says that all in title song. Folk metal song, a joy of life text. For beer lovers and dancers in old fashioned gin mill. Next Ogien I Woda has more insight on human nature text which is fire and water as opposites. More metal song again but Biesiada is my favorite so far. Last one called Taniec Smierci which is a lecture about worshipping everyday life as the end of the line for us all is death. A bit dark in nature track and has amazingly beautiful refrain which I like.
Do not expect professional sound here. It is demo release that shows a band as starting off artists on the scene and it makes it work for the band well but I would like it sounds powerful like scream of football fans on Maracana stadium next time.
