Reido
Anātman
Aesthetic Death Records
Deathwave is a kind of introduction to the album, in which the ambient moment turns into a very, very slow metal fragment, where guitarists barely touch the guitar strings, as if they wanted the music to grow over time, with every minute, not giving everything musically just yet...
Second song continues with the heaviness of the previous one, but this time, music goes along with deep, growling vocals and the tempo of the music remains the same. The gaps between guitar riffs are filled with short arrangements played on synthesizers or vocals. One could say that it`s funeral doom metal album because of its pace, only I do not feel a grief or sorrow in their song. Their doom is free of emotions, calculates its creative gravity in infinity of sound, pushing your mind to collision with great wall of death metal sound that this album has and you need to face it, in order to enjoy the music. It`s should not be difficult to acquire because they channel their music ideas the simplest way..
I do not need to say that Dirt Fills My Mouth is another slow song (they all are). A tempo of drum beat and guitar rhythms are a bit more up. Vocalist is whispering and growling and second guitarist laid down some space leads which attract me to the music.
Fourth track is more atmospheric, cause synthesizer`s activity has been increased while they play those gigantic doom metal riffs. There`s rather boring ambient moment in the middle of the song which is the only one that is not important for me, all other ambience they have in different times of the album are actually quite well done... And just after that. They have turned on variable guitar distortions and at this very moment, until the end of the song, Reido has taken a pace of the music to the bottom of heaviness where they play slow and sound terrifying, vocal growls powerful.
The only ambient song that stands alone is Anātman. The ominous sound in it and distorted voices/ conversations feels kind of creepy as you getting into the mystery of this song.
While listening Vast Emptiness, No Holiness I have felt my mind has been worn off. The band has started to play predictably, accumulating all similar ideas in this song that I heard before. Rhythm guitarist plays like he do not want to cross the line and bring a change, a new element to the music.
I understand that this album is a whole, but I think some elements in it should be approached differently so the song could be a bit more surprising. Other than that I think that Belarus should be proud of having such great sounding doom metal band like Reido which they remind me of other band - Esoteric.
