QuetzalQoatl
Uitzilopochtli
More Hate Productions
New album of Russian duo have weirdest band name and album title ever. For this reason I do not think I would read with passion about Aztec civilization because all those names are difficult to pronounce and more likely easier to forget for a person from Europe. The idea of remembering something from it seems like well paid, full time job for some lucky folks out there. I better focus more on music this time to find out if there is an atmosphere and silent presence of ancient gods of war in it.
The band plays blackened death metal and for me it`s a signal that some spirituality should go throughout the music. The band is a little short in members and production is not always organic but despite it, they are capable to recall a good death metal times for me. Examples of Nile and Hate should be enough to draw a picture in your mind as a clue. It`s very intense album and their persistence to put everything together on good level of instrumental and technical decency is well anticipated. Guttural-growl vocals leave no mercy and are easily to compare to Glen Benton`s blasphemies sometimes but mostly it`s as you would expect it from DM band. Russians may not be that cruelty like Deicide but it`s still very merciless, technical and groundbreaking brutality. They often change the pace and rhythms within the songs and music is always open for new arrangements and you can`t be sure what comes next from them. They have few acoustic and instrumental songs to make up stories before next songs and it builds-up atmosphere which is pretty good to listen to. However, that`d be much desirable if they could use some orchestration in their music to underline the Aztec culture because lack of it as they do results in just ordinary DM outcome which can`t go much further using only bass, guitars and drums. Some keyboards could reach a depth and some mysteries to the music, in my opinion.
QuetzalQoatl is very promising band already but I`m certain they can go much better than now and expand their line-up to achieve this goal, maybe?...
