Adjusting The Space
NRT Records
I did not expect here to review an album like this one, because it`s not really the metal album, perhaps in 100 years it will be, but for now, songs on the album can be described as futuristic, extraterrestrial industrial/techno. The only metal element in music of Pulse is vocal, and you may like vocals of Nemesis (a singer for Pulse), if you are familiar with vocals from Vorph of Samael. Both singers sound similar to each other and it happens that this kind of dark, low frequency black/death metal singing, also alien-like effects that Pulse tracked down in songs are good for band`s musical variety.
The album sounds mechanical, songs have plenty of rapid dynamics, programming, distortions in vocals and guitars (bass is electronically generated and so are drum beats). There are tracks to dance to (if you like), songs more atmospheric, and the ones that made me feel less human, because album does not sound organic at all. Music of Adjusting The Space is a very intense mix of vivid melodies with schizoid sub-sounds, and a bit of somber ambience – all super layered and computerized. The album is like a cyber invasion on your psyche - thoughts and perception evolve as dehumanized but catchy in a way tunes, strikes you in.
Lyrical content of the album are generally sci-fi themes; aliens, or those about historic conspiracy-theories background, like Roswell incident from 1947. I leave you to those stories, digging it is more enjoyable while surrounded by music of the band. Album Adjusting The Space of those Austrian cosmonauts premiers in November 2020.
