Planet Hell
Mission One
Thrashing Madness Productions
Planet Hell has been formed by 2 musicians from thrash metal band The No Mads (RIP). They have released 4 albums with that band and earned 15 years experience for being on the scene. It basically guarantees very strong foundations for Planet Hell which they use for creativity of the band. They are based in Katowice/Silesia/Poland and from now on my focus goes for their Mission One debut.
Lyrics of the album are inspired by genius of Polish sci-fi literature- Stanislaw Lem. Planet Hell has found even better integration with his works and released the album with amazing graphics which you can find in booklet of the CD. It`s kind mutual to arts of Canadian Voivod but with certain differences...
Mission One has professional sound and consist 10 songs of very intense crossover of many music genres. That includes progressive thrash-death metal and rock influences. Average pace of the songs is fast and they incorporate many-like interstellar passages on guitars and bass which are very cool. You could compare it to albums of Voivod (era of Negatron and Phobos) sometimes but Planet Hell is just much more aggressive, like the other discovery band I like - Vektor from the US. In many moments of songs, the music is very persuasive and composed with details. They focus very much on technical aspects of music which they progress in tracks and outcome you can hear is incredibly good.
Planet Hell is not compromising music with many melodies which I think are needed in their music so much. They intensifying music too much, in result, they lost a little clarity and gravity of songs. They also left guitar groove too much behind, so the album in some points is balancing on the edge of brutality that they do not need as much as on this album. Even so, there are few songs you could play to random person in the world and they should be happy to hear some of the tracks. I like foremost: Nothing/Machine, Astronauts, Return From The Stars and Mask is really amazing song, too.
My conclusion and theory is that if their own songs had nicer groove of guitars, space and melodies like in their cover version of Earthshine by Rush then this album could take rotation by 180 degrees and I would not resist anything in music at all. In this song there is everything they should have done on the album with their own music. For now, they did not let that happen as much as I`d like to, even if it`s very solid piece of work.
