Pig Blood
Bizarre Leprous Production
Facts: Pigsty – Czech Republic, Pig Blood - grind/death metal.
This record has a massively brutal sound of low tuned guitars, pummelling drums, extremely brutal growls, crushingly heavy tracks and fast tempos. The album does not has a complicated songs, it is kind like a survival record - well, maybe not for ordinary grind core maniacs - they seem to feed off on every kind of brutality and they know it all...
Bands`s music remind me a grind/death that I know very well from many other bands who play similar songs to them (Dead Infection, Squash Bowels). But I couldn't have agree more with everyone, who would say that Pig Blood`s sonic carnage is so intense that your ear holes might be under serious threat of deaf. Pig Blood is basically not the album for people who listen to pop music - in matter of seconds, they would be kilometres away if they heard some Pigsty songs.
Because the album has only 7 tracks and less than 30 minutes of grinding massacre, it is still easier to get through it than if it was 40 minutes – that`d be exhausting. But yet, there is something more on top of music that make songs of the band sound more accessible. Does a front cover ring a bell?...Omen movie?... – now, I am sure it does. If you do not know that Omen soundtrack is one of the best ever made in horror movie, then you should, or at least got curious that indeed, it is the one of the greatests - you can find out when listening to songs of the band. Pigsty cut some fragments off the soundtrack and mixed them (sometimes chaotically) with their own songs. So, there are orchestrations, choirs and dialogues taken from the movie that you experience along with grind core/death metal music where songs are based on 2-3 solid riffs. Because I am a fan of Omen, I like this cinematic connection with extreme music on this concept album the band did.
Pig Blood has actually very decent grind core/death metal tracks – my favourites ones are The Arrival and Megiddo Vs Armageddon, the other day the titles could change. So, you know what to expect, but expectations do not make a good songs, music does. I think Pig Blood is the album that delivers hammering brutality and dark atmosphere of the movies. No disappointment from Pigsty if you are aiming for these elements in music and more.
