Oregon Trail
H/aven
Czar Of Bullets
Oregon Trail is a four-piece band from Switzerland and H/aven is their second album. The music is partially a result of desolated and very nature driven town around Neuchatel where not much going on, except, some guys decided to write few songs out of cold, despising hopelessness of reality by playing hard core music. At first, I did not get their music at all because I am totally into other styles and band`s music trajectories do not meet mine that much. However, I pushed myself to give it a chance but I am not sure if I will able to fully justify this type of music that is not that much connected to metal which is my main thing.
The screaming vocals here wave a lot of emotions toward a listener which is one of the elements I like on the album. The songs are modern sounding but musically there is a small trace to older H/C bands you can catch in their music. Also the sound is smooth but not excessively polished, so it still has its heaviness and fairy aggressive songs that hard core bands should have. Of course, they just go harder with music than rock bands do but as addition (both in production of album and music itself), they know how to use post metal influences on advantage of music. There is lot of enthusiasm of just playing songs in this album but music outlook is like a scream of desperation of those ones who are lost in bleak of reality.
There are really good instrumental arrangements and guitar groove on H/aven but also contemplating atmospherics which all together, I would simply call as post hard core.
Line up:
Charles-A. Bernhard – Vocals/guitar
Antoine Dollat – bass
Jonas Roesti – Guitar
Arnaud Martin - drums
