Ontborg
Within The Depths Of Oblivion
Newport Music
Ontborg is another phenomenon on metal scene. This Italian band openly declares their inspiration to Scandinavian death metal and they recorded this album in such style. In fact, the powerful sound that they managed here is very near to Sunlight studio death metal albums and bands like Befouled and Entombed but it does not take anything from Ontborg of being a band of their own style. So, all what you can expect from Within The Depths Of Oblivion album is a pro-produced record with heavy and crispy sound which fuels my burning desire to hear even more music from them....
Ontborg has a track like Living Is A Torture with a nice rhythmic guitar breakdowns and heaviness which make one hell of the song. The album also has songs (Storm Breaks The Silence, Die To Be Alive) played in standard death metal or melo-death style and these tracks sound as good as decent death metal compositions suppose to. Even if the album keeps up on melodies, they are able to give the music some brutal vibe as well which, all to all is what death metal requires. On the other hand, Entwined In Darkness (slow, monumental and melodic song) and This Time, both have that epic feeling of Unorthodox album by Edge Of Sanity which I like draw myself into. The long Awaited Winter and No Memories Beyond , are little faster Ontborg songs on this diverse, death metal release.
For most of the time, the band is looking for ways to find riffs and longing guitar shreds that built- up a certain atmosphere in songs, and they are really good at it. They try their music to be memorable by having in some catchy ideas, and constantly, they having that crusty and brutal sound which is exciting for overall album reception. You can find these elements in self titled track and in Snow Of Lethe which are another amazing songs. My statement is that it is almost impossible to have only 1 or 2 favorite tracks on this record which says of how good this album is throughout.
Ontborg is embracing Scandinavian melo-death metal style that I really enjoy from them and, anytime I think the band deserves it, I`d like to recommend Within The Depths Of Oblivion for people who might like it.
