Northorn
The Art Of Destruction
Talheim Records
Northorn comes from Indonesia and plays doom black metal songs. They have self-harm lyrical themes; they worship coldness and darkness under many meanings. Songs do not feature blast beats. Album consists of heavy songs based on simple guitar chords to which they added some crafty moments, such as grimy melodies. I (Meditation 666) is build of modest guitar solos with calmer guitar lines and depressive black metal vibe/sound. More dynamic guitar harmonies you can hear in track Gomorrah, which reminds me Viking type of metal. Music of Northorn becomes rawer as time goes by – song Inner Temple delivers harsh black metal vocals and high pitched guitar sound. Super dark and grimy track with spoken vocal declamations is The Art Of Destruction that sound like a European/Scandinavian black metal mixed with Behemoth- quite primitively performed and sort of atmospheric song. The EP ends with the song R.I.P that has some unshaped guitar layers in the beginning, and then, catchier guitar harmonies is the ride till the end.
My favorite song from this release is Gomorrah, then the music becomes immature black metal, but kind of intriguing.
