Nocturne
Nahash
Talheim Records
Nahash is only the EP, but I can tell you now, those 4 tracks are better than many other full length albums being released every day. Album production and sound is nearly perfect, all what remains is dive into the music of the band.
It`s not any surprise if I write that they engineered a high-pitched tone for their guitar sound, but when they play faster and melodic, the music becomes an extravaganza of ferocity., When they play at mid-tempos with vigour and strength that lies in melodic choruses, music is more in manner of black/Viking metal that thrives of melodies. There are fairly more bands playing in style of melodic black metal, more or less like those Austrians do, but I think Nocturne`s song-writing is very theirs. Let me just write that I recognized the name of the band when I was listening to this EP, not knowing what it is-true story. When Nocturne plays those layered, catchy guitar melodies fast, they also spreading this raw sonic furiosity of black metal – these all emerge energy and vitality to the songs, which build band`s musical stronghold.
There are some “around” attributes in their music like bell tolls or spooky sound of organ, but still, I do not think that they just try to write entertaining songs, they just do it, like there was no other way in the laws of nature.
When band like Nocturne (Austria) play melodic black metal, it just sounds like Nocturne`s black metal – the band was having their own musical identity, already on this EP!
