Neverlight Horizon
Dead God Effigies
Great Dane Records
Summoning a band from Belgium to review their music is still not easy thing to achieve. There is a fantastic band Max Pie of course, but they have nothing to do with death metal which is a domain of Neverlight Horizon. Besides that, there is a big gap to fill in my mind because my knowledge about metal scene from Belgium ends as quick as I start think about it.
Dead God Effigies is a third album of the band and the only one I have heard from them, to void comparison to their past efforts. There is nothing unusual in approach to death metal by this band. They keep up with tradition and patterns of death metal without being innovative but on the other hand, standards they offer should not be questioned. 8 brutal compositions closed in 35 minutes deliver highly intense and uncompromising piece of punishing death metal. I played the album few time to make sure I have armored myself up with only accurate opinion regarding the album. My conclusion about Dead God Effigies is that you whether die after third song or you keep your guts together in process of surviving throughout all the songs. Neverlight Horizon has that music insanity and technicality that demand constant attention and like a marine, if you get distracted, you earn the bullet in your head. Very good musicianship is out of question on the album. Drums are great and complex. Guitars shred like hell and spread the vibe that something sinistrous is coming. Occasionally harmonies they adapt in the songs create fundament of much better songs. And finally, merciless vocals tear the air until his last breath.
That`d be hypocritical if I said this is best death metal album I`ve heard but this little beast hiding in their music and furiosity overall should meet expectations of those most devoted to death metal.
