Necrophor
Reborn
Sliptrick Records
It`s been ages since I heard anything from Sunlight Studio. The place that has left a strong signature in European death metal by producing classic albums from Entombed, Dismember, among few others. Everybody know that death metal took a new course after the album Left Hand Path but NO! Necrophor does not sound like those bands at all. Even if it is produced by a man himself; Tomas Skoksberg, the band obviously has their own vision on how black metal should be embraced and I am telling you... You can find nothing more effective than listening to this album, at time when shadow of the night takes over and your inner eyes can see in darkness. Necrophor awakes my senses so I again... and again have a joy from playing a black metal album. Eventually, I could say that Reborn is also blackened death metal, like crossover of Dissection and Dark Funeral in slow motion but with extreme emanation from a third Bathory album. I do not question maturity of Necrophor. They do their own way.
On this album, you have 9 atmospheric songs and those Swedes do not rush anything they would not do. Sometimes it`s a bit of death metal but in realm of harsh, black metal production. They have inclinations to write epic songs but do not extend them to 10 minutes. They rather stop on writing tight, 4-6 minutes long tracks, strongly expressed through traditional sounding black metal. Simple, mystical riffs and magic of music is everything they need to reach monumental side of the band.
They are amazing when comes to intensify ambience of the music. Necrophor need just traditional instruments to make an impression on orchestrations of their music which they prolong throughout the whole album. With small exception, they do need to use keyboards to sound almost as powerful as the bands that use it. Their transcendence of chaos into greater evil is spawned in their music and it`s fundamental for their offerings.
Vocals are obscure, performed very supremely and just like in black metal.
I do not say that Reborn is highly refreshing for the genre and I do not care about that. I drew myself into atmosphere of this album after few nights with their music and decency of it is all I really need. If I can advise, you should do the same.
