Metal.hu released the fourth full-length studio album Pre Divine by Aornos
In early November, Metal.hu released the fourth full-length studio album Pre Divine by Aornos from Miskolc (HU), who play epic-grim black metal. The new eight-song album combines the atmospheric, complex approach of 2018's The Great Scorn with a number of new influences, exciting instrumentation and solutions not necessarily common in the genre. The 44-minute long digipak CD features eight new songs, with the title track's music video being the first to be released as a prelude. "Pre Divine," which is the fastest, most direct, yet perhaps the easiest to absorb song on the entire album.
"Pre Divine" is an intense, attacking piece, but of course it's not just old school grind, as towards the middle it takes on the kind of haunting atmosphere that often appears in our songs. It could be seen as a kind of extract of everything that is typical of Aornos' music, condensed into a tight 4 minutes. The title, as an expression, is a kind of romantic, philosophical longing for a state before the dominant religions and cultures. To a time of primordiality when the idea of existence was not artificially divided into concepts of good and evil, as expressed, for example, in the interpretations and dogmas of institutionalised religions. In some respects, the text, if read without any irony in the bare words, may seem inhuman, the message extremely cruel, but I would describe this attitude not as negative or despairing, but rather as calm and accepting."
Aornos Algras, civil name Csaba Tátrai, started as a solo project in 2014. Since its formation, three full-length albums and several singles and special releases have been released, and the initially one-man formation has gradually matured into a full-strength, touring band since 2017. Pre Divine is the latest stage in this process.

Although the music and the lyrics of the songs are mine, Róbert Mester's heavy drumming, wicked, deep rumbles, Attila Kovács' exciting fretless bass playing and vocals, and Gábor Drótos - best known as the former guitarist of Gutted, but more and more people know that he is also an excellent classical string player - his sumptuous cello, viola and violin sounds give the music a new flavour.
Our aim was to make a layered and atmospheric record that we would enjoy listening to. Where in every song there are many small details, motifs that are not obvious at first. So, although complex, dense music doesn't necessarily make it easy for listeners, for those who are receptive to that kind of music, Pre Divine has a lot to discover."
While Aornos' inspirations can be clearly traced back to the heyday of Scandinavian black metal, the band strives to play the style with its own flavour, allowing room for a more intellectual, artistic approach in terms of music and lyrics, and sometimes experimental solutions not necessarily typical of traditional black metal.
It’s a journey deep into the vortex, but in a way where we dominate the Chaos and not the Chaos is the one, who dominates... at least that’s the aim."
