Max Pie
ODD Memories
Mausoleum Records CD
Album starts with sort of hybrid instrumental-opera , orchestrated track, almost like soundtrack to super Hollywood production and this CD is very well recorded and mastered indeed by the band and Simone Mularoni. Those few first minutes are great warm-up to me and what`s to come...
...And fuck me there is lots of good things going on, on this progressive power metal album. I have been always supporting and play bands like that but not that often in last years and I am asking myself where the heck I have been over that period of time. Max Pie reminds me how great this genre can be and shows potential of musicians and how far they are able to go connecting imagination with instrumental skills and at the same time sells it to a modern and demanding listeners. Odd Memories has quite of twists and turns and there is not much time to think about next surprise the band could play for you while it is already happening. As every human being, also Max Pie has some other bands influences, mentioning Dream Theater, Iced Earth and Halloween as classic examples. But very European production of the album says their own band story and that`s what makes difference in plus.
Compositions keep tight formulas of the songs and it`s hardly not to notice that all those great tracks are like little atomic bombs that just exploding every time you play them. Vocals are really good here and that`s make me happy hearing that Tony Carlino push himself high so I can write just superlatives about his voice. This band is collective of superb instrumentalists as well and I have nothing left but pleasure to suck out best of this album for myself.
