The silence from Maggoth camp was definitely too long. Almost ten years took them to release out new songs which are available for listeners in this album. Songs actually have no titles so I guess I could come up with my own titles if I wanted to, but I am not going to justify the laziness and carelessness of Maggoth...
Maggoth has changed musically in comparison to older songs, not in the core of music which is thrash metal but they have changed for better. What is very characteristic for new songs is a twist, more complex music and less linear song writing. I assume that you know how usually a decent thrash metal album sounds like, so, they play here like that, but with much more energy that comes from progressive metal which you can hear from guitarists, they twist and turn their music ideas until it sounds very cool and creative. Maggoth also managed to play extremely heavy hard core riffs (3,5) which in connection with thrash metal created a powerful hybrid of both genres. In one, maybe two tracks they did drums that sound very tribal (4), in the vein of Sepultura. Of course, the album has its aggression when it needs to be, but also very rhythm driven and slightly algorithmic guitar work, although the music is pretty much accessible to the ear. I still can hear Slayer influences (6) in music of Maggoth, but they have those thrashier (1) and faster songs (8) that are more rooted in thrash metal tradition as well. What they have plenty in music now, actually more than they ever did, are catchy and progressive songs or part of songs which are memorable guitar riffs (4,6). Drum beats sound in this album like Mammoth steps. Maggoth kind of follow the musical path of such bands like Voivod, Sepultura and Kobong on this album but not blindly... The band develops their musical identity and they do something with their songs which appeals to my senses in a special way.
Album production has a good standard but not the cleanest sound. Vocals are the weakest link – sometimes a singer fits his voice into the music by giving songs a better chemistry, sometimes it is barely happening. Anyway, despite few imperfections, it`s very sharp, unpure thrash metal album with strong hard core influences. I like this s/t album much more now than I heard it first and second time.
