Late Night Venture
Subcosmos
Czar Of Crickets Prod.
Late Night Venture is a band from Denmark. They sound doomy and sludgy, similar to Triptykon. The songs are nicely lasting forever and the album is pretty dark, which is manifested by atmosphere of the album in majority of tracks. Things happen rather slowly on Subcosmos but the band knows how to create songs that give monolith a solid meaning by consistence of sound and magic of music. Late Night Venture surprises with mysterious arrangements of synthesizers where darkness and minor desperation upon music wants to devour, until you disappear from the world without a trace. The song 2630 is a great example of synths diversions and it`s my favourite track of the record because music is enticed by unearthly atmosphere that just stuck in a head. You can also hear some Pink Floyd ambiences in the beginning of S/T song where you can sense that the band`s creativity is just huge. For this particular album it means that climax of the album are its songs alone, even if Subcosmos as a whole has a great and little hostile atmosphere, embedded in music and production of the record. The music from those Danes is also based on post-metal foundations for which the band crafts their unique dimension.
Subcosmos have drums which sound a little industrial, like on Godflesh albums (fortunately Late Night Venture play with a real drummer which means - no feeling of sterility in music). This instrument delivers a coldness for the music which harmonizes with obscurely tuned bass and Mammoth-heavy guitars. So, it remains to write that the band`s rhythm section communicate throughout the music just great.
Late Night Venture expresses enthusiasm for song-writing between two vocalists. They sing differently on the album with pure vocals (a'la Tom G. Warrior) and with those ones that resemble black metal shrieks.
Subcosmos will take you hostage for a good, 48 minutes which is a duration of the album.
