Lacrima Mortis
Posthumous
Talheim Records
Lacrima Mortis is a band from Brazil. Posthumous is a collection of older and newer songs that they had been working on for several years. Talheim Records released them in 2020.
Posthumously is also natural sounding doom metal album with funeral doom elements (pace). Very slow songs of the band go with deep, dreadful growls, surrounded by very heavy and doomy sound, usually delivered by guitar chords, some acoustic sounds and subtle keyboard arrangements (The Ruins of Desolation). Lacrima Mortis go through miserable emotions in their music and try to embrace them spiritually (Words Of Blood). Some guitar leads are somewhat reminiscent of the early era of My Dying Bride, like in songs Miserere or Optare Mortem (spiritual choir, eerie keyboards) by which Posthumous has more intense feelings of contemplation and sorrow attached to their music universe. There are lots of atmospheric keyboards in the music, but the biggest surprise for me is a dynamic song Shades of Destiny, where you can hear a catchy leads and melodic guitar rhythm, something that Paradise Lost did on their raw sounding record Gothic. Definitely, it`s a song that quickly falls on into my memory by a fact that music does not sounds so dreary as some music (Words Of Blood). In terms of compositional maturity, Shades of Destiny is simply my best composition of Lacrima Mortis that they have done for this album.
Songs do not always have a slow pace, sporadically band plays faster guitars and drums paired together that sound like a basic death metal. Imprisoned in Death is simply that track that sounds very doom and death metal, also music is both more dynamic and slow. Song Saudate with flute and acoustic guitar sounds delightfull and optimistic, which is in a contrary to the rest of the music from this very good doom metal record.
