Laang

Laang is a Taiwanese project of 楊海濤 - all instruments, and all music composed for Haiyang album. He also recorded, mixed and mastered the entire record that sounds nothing less but professional. I did a little research about Laang and from what I found, this album is a true story about near death experience and things like life after death while body was diagnosed dead.
It`s a symphonic black metal album, for most of time you will hear layered orchestrations and well though-out music ideas played on keyboards or programmed on computer-sometimes is just hard to tell a difference.
There is a song entitled Shēnyuān 深淵with haunting atmosphere, drum blast beats and some brutal, nearby death metal guitar work while the other guitar tracks sounds very black metal. Some chants sound pretty good in this one as well.
In first and third song there is some play with ominous sounds, both songs feature no vocals.
Cāngliáng 蒼涼awakes some cosmic atmosphere wearing its dread in music and few melodic guitar moments sound like pieces of melo-death metal from Scandinavia ala Dan Swano.
Very groovy song with piano and violin sound modulation is Yān 淹 which is more like a doom metal song.
More bombastic atmosphere with vocal shrieks and less effective growls is Jī 羇, dark orchestrations, slower pace and heavy guitar sound reminds me here bands like Elegis and Dimmu Borgir.
Yǔn Miè 殒灭is faster and harsher black metal song, stylistically it`s similar to second track Shēnyuān 深淵.
Zǐdàn Kǒng 子弹孔 is a highlight of the album because 楊海濤 reveals his predisposition for singing with melodic vocals and ability to cope with choruses. Need to write that vocals transitions from楊海濤and all symphonic/doom music ideas sound diverse throughout the album. Also, this song has a high-pitched guitar sound and some twisted influences from classical music...
I think the record has programmed drum tracks which is not as when hearing a drummer in real action play, but what is good about it, drums do not have that crashing, computerized beat sound which may be sometimes quite annoying in this type of albums....
Music and production wise, Haiyang is a cleverly mastered black metal release.
