Korzo
Advancing in Circles
Talheim Records
Debut album from Spanish Korzo. As you can see, art work is in a mood of Japanese horror movies like The Ring - things like it always give me creeps...
...Faster drumming, aggressively played tracks are The Last Breath of Your Sun, The Room of Disillusion which are very promising songs yet of the album...
Korzo is not making a gossip form of black metal. Advancing in Circles sounds exquisite and the band emphasizes in many places that they care about harmonies and music creativity as in the track called The Man Without a Name.
The album has moments played without guitar distortions or acoustically which they interweave with raw, black metal motorics - Under a Million of Dead Stars.
The importance of the album is not only in sense of desolation and grimness which, of course is present in Korzo`s music... Melodies in places (-247°C) is what try to melt that glacial black metal ice sometimes, just like in song Aokigahara - Through the Sea of Trees which has some clean, melodic vocals that keep pushing black metal forward...
Selectiveness of instruments is what the band did wisely, sound-wise. It turned out splendidly for the harshness of the album. In song 1977, the band indulged in some technical moments on the drums, with accents on bass - it shows the collective musicality of the band, frankly not just in this track. It`s also where album has some prolonged and majestically delivered guitar riffs.
Advancing In Circles merges a grim and "flaming" black metal songs, with genuine work in sound engineering. My favorite tracks: 2,6...
