It`s a band of Russian immigrants who live in Vienna/Austria, so the place I more recognize from classic music than metal. I can`t define this album and tell you it belongs only to one specific genre of heavy music because it is not. When I listen to their songs, I am finding influences of techno, electronic, dance music but certainly, it is just one half of the coin to what they do. The other half is that it`s progressive, industrial, technical metal. The point is that Kaak is a knowingly band that is determined to combine all those styles of music and craft something extraordinary out of it that rather sound very experimental but smooth. Among standard metal instruments, they have a DJ who does all that synthetic sounding stuff with machine drum beats, synthesizers and with all that crazy programming and equipment that I can`t even name it. It`s basically what you can hear on dance floors in night clubs. Techno music is really huge on this album but faces metal and industrial side of the band pretty good. You can literally do your spazmatic dance to their songs, most of the time, so it`s also this kind of the album.
If you are into bands like Slipknot, Fear Factory, Thy Disease, Meshuggah then you should dig Litanies Of Pain, not because Kaak sound like any of these bands, they just not. They are very Russian and I just do not remember listen to this kind of band that has such vivid, flashy and very colorful vision of making music.
In my opinion it`s album of many genres which is not always easy to do in one record. Luckily, they know how to cross a boundaries a bit, even if I do not consider this album the greatest one. I think it`s for the best if you check them out to find what you think about them and how you picture them as a band in your head. That could be quite interesting what you can experience through music by using your own perception that somehow hit into your own senses...
