Inferitvm
The Grimoires
Inverse Records
If death itself had a human vessel, walked the Earth and had the voice, it could sound like a singer/guitarist of Inferitvm – Sorcerer V. His creepy black metal vocals with echo effects sound terrifying, like a vocal mix of Pat Lind (Morbid Saint) and Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir). Vocals on this album come to the fore when I listen to the songs, take almost all my attention, at least that's how I perceive it. ...Later on, I wanted the album to unveil other aspects of their music for me, but it takes some focus to do so because, album production is like a dim light in a cellar, you need to use more senses to find what you want to or what you expect to find you...
...The magic and witchcraft (lyrical content of the album) are deepened through the suggestively used keyboards that Inferitvm mostly uses for creating dark passages which surround their black metal songs... The Grimoires is an album with modest, not technically exposed songs when comes to guitars and drums. Inferitvm provides rather simple arrangements for this album which are chained to grimness of sound, and that sound is enchanted in the spell of darkness that carries sombreness and so on. I appreciate atmosphere of the album but sound quality hardens it for me, to fully enjoy the music. Instruments are recorded too quiet with respect to the vocals and do not have the proper (more massive) sound that should frighten along with those stories about magic...
I also wanted to hear some songs that would stand out, but it didn't happen. There is not much in their music that would build the character of this album and its desire fire. This is more of a record for which you dedicate this moment when you listen to it - enjoy some bits and pieces in songs but then, the memory of this album quickly passes on.
Vocals are significant and sound great in this Spanish band but this 60 minutes album is a way too long. There is approx. 25 minutes of music ideas that make this album better for me but I don't have a favorite track on this album, except deathly vocal tracks...
