In Tenebriz
Bitter Wine Of Summer
GrimmDistribution
I haven't heard of this band before, although In Tenebriz's discography looks phenomenal - over 10 albums to date, plus many smaller releases since 2006. The founder of the project is Wolfir, who has been composing his music since the beginning of the project, and Bitter Wine Of Summer is so far his last album, released in 2020.
The band's style can be described as a bitter melodic doom metal, songs are consisting of many atmospheric soundscapes, captured when there are no guitar distortions in music, which is happening quite often in songs of the band. Guitar leads are smoothly woven into the music and warm/cold atmosphere of music brings a nostalgia of autumn - it is basically when In Tenebriz sounds more doom metal which is like 50% of the album. The other side of the band are harsher black metal elements in songs, such as murky vocals and gloomier sounding guitar passages - Heart In The Pattern Of Roots. The music is played in slow and at medium tempos, drum (nice percussion effects in Stellar Dust) and bass (disturbed distortion in Grass Still Remembers Your Trace) musical ideas sound simple but good enough so the one could say that music of In Tenebriz on this album feels overall satisfying/fully completed.
As for one-man project, the album impress as if it was a group effort because there are no rushed moments in songs, calm musical atmosphere has its steady (like a river) stream, Wolfir plays on all instruments equally good, his music is darkened by black metal anxiety coming from guitar distortions and vocals - the other 50% of the music...So, it`s well balanced album between doom and black metal and songs sound good by craft.
Better songs: Bitter Wine Of Summer, Into Crimson Oblivion...
