Hovert

Music composer and lyricists for this Russian band is Alever. Album was also recorded by Dismal on drums and cello duties was taken by L.
Introducio is instrumental track and it`s when I`ve started to think that Hovert may be one of those many instrumental bands from ambient scene...I, very soon found it untrue.
Track - Autumnus, quickly took a turn toward deepressive black metal (I do not like a word depressive like it meant that everything go wrong). It has to be written that sound of drums and guitars is very distinct while vocalist represent archaic style of singing, pretty much the one that you can hear when normally listening to black metal bands.
As it is in the first song, you will be hearing some non-harsh sounding guitars and keyboards throughout the album which was good idea to do it, in terms of balancing an atmosphere of the album.
And here comes my favourite track called Mortualia. Guitar groove is blazing, really digging the darkness of it. One thing that is not always easy to do, especially in black metal, are vocal deliverance from Alever in this song. His shrieks sound very emotional which is like verbal manifestation of burning feelings that he fought with from the inside that are now exposed to outside, as he sings. Heck, it`s very moving how he did it. Cello in song sounds like a “melancholic cry” which is very doom metal thing for this album, if you will.
Because the album production is incredibly well done, other atmospheric song like Aer, builds a beautiful music picture in your head when following a dark, harmonic guitar groove and when hearing a high pitched guitar sound.
I do not think it was really necessary to include a song Tentus to this album because it just tries to ease it with clean vocals, takes it too much beyond metal where band does not belong. These vocals sound lame while those black metal ones just work much better for me.
Pygmalion and Sol are about Norwegian related black metal sounding tracks (as well as the whole album), perhaps these two tracks are a bit more aggressive than the rest of the album, but still, atmospheric and with harsh guitars. Pygmalion is better song in my opinion because keyboards in Sol take too much impression from raw, black metal rhythm section of the band which I think is very important for the band. And so for you to know, in songs from 2 to 4, they just play amazing black metal where guitars, vocals and drumming are elementary for original sound of the band, like it really matter for them on the first place. Well, at least, it`s where the highlights of the album are spotted, in my opinion.
My best tracks are Autumnus and Mortualia and, I want to tell you one more thing about album like Sol. In contrast to the Scandinavian sound, band like Hovert pushes black metal into the deeper realm of despair where pain of dying is as vivid as probably in no scene in the world. That`s why Sol is almost perfect album.
