Hovert is a two piece black metal band from Russia.
There are many adjectives you can stick to what is going on in their music. Song Antinatalism I is a monotonic and depressive black metal in most parts of the track. The idea to play the song with harsh sounding rhythm guitar and undistorted lead guitar alongside is something that fit a term traditional black metal mixed with post-black metal influences. Audio-instrumental distortions toward the end of the song tell me that it`s going to be worse when comes to emotional side of this album, but more like in a creative ways...
There are instrumental intros on the album, but very good ones. Antinatalism II with calmer acoustic moments and cello - which has this depravity of sadness in its sound, also post black metal background given by guitarists, these all bring diversity and incredible atmosphere into the music.
The other instrumental track is Pendulum II where cello and guitar layers sound beautifully in its grief sensations. Omyt II is ambience, post-black metal, a bit more experimental song.
My statement is that overall idea to use cello in their music was very good decision made by the band that gave their songs identity.
Another regular track of the band with vocals is Pendulum I that starts off with acoustic guitars and ambience on keyboards. It`s mid-paced song. When black metal is what you hear out of speakers, the music is like jumping into the abyss where there is an ocean of negativity in music of Hovert. Minute by minute vocal performances become more dramatic that you can almost guess that singer is about to explode any minute from now on with something emotionally driven that is eating him alive from the inside...
...My little digression now is that album is very well produced, but I particularly like a primitive drummer`s play which feels like it was the only ways to make it right for the album. Sound of his drums is old school and very natural.
Omyt I has this mesmerizing depressive tension the way their black metal is being played here, with moments of extensive keyboards that has more electronic sound somewhere in the middle of the track that latter sound more doom metal and in depth. In this song vocalist`s harsh lamentations start to sound like the cry of pain and drama, which happen at 29.50 mins... - you can tell by despair and distress tones in singer`s voice...
Omyt is atmospheric and depressive black metal album with acoustic songs but in my opinion music of the band sounds fairly original.
