High Inquisitor Woe
Liquid Times
Independent digipack CD
A band hailing from Belgium. This is 3 tracks epic CD. Quite did not know what to expect but first of all, Drink Her Blood, Black Serpent song brings some heavy influences by British metal and four early Black Sabbath albums matter to them a lot. A bit witchy vocals are pretty tasty but what the hell... No need for growls and all that scream stuff later on. Singer is pretty good just singing, wailing and any other way just could ruin this release. Fortunately, Smalle van Suuz vocals are most time clean and this is it! Song is melodic and mid-paced with heavy guitars and they nailed it from the beginning.
Second Neptune`s Trident starts very slow and sad. If you remembering Lee Dorian and his sorrowful and miserable vocals on Forest Of Equilibrium. It is here with better outcome. The plenty of emotions and bizarre vocals are part of the song. They speed up a little after minutes and yeah, Sabbath is just everywhere but never better recommendation. They are likeable in their long song, atmospheric, they make you want to sink into their music and they won. They sound obscure, old way, you know...This song is crushing and they doomed it again at the end of the track. It is my favourite one.
Lady Saliva starts off very Cathedral once again, bits of Led Zeppelin and My Dying Bride don`t take advantage over identity of High Inquisitor Woe but give a blend of madness, hippies and first Woodstock festival. This CD is just classic heavy metal, doom, psychedelic rock and has all the way memorable influences taking from 70`s and somehow that feels just great in 2016.
They could not go any better on their debut and I am highly impressed by what they have done on Liquid Times- just in the beginning of their journey, so let it be yours, too.
