Hellbomb
Darkness Grinds Within
More Hate Productions
It`s not the newest album, it`s been released in the end of 2019, I`ve heard it in the beginning of 2020, and back then, I already knew that there was something in songs ov Hellbomb that will push me back to re-listen this album. If you also heard music of this Russian band, you know that they had been more into hard core, grind core and death metal in the past. Darkness Grinds Within is more a turn toward death metal. My statement is that Hellbomb had never being so death metal as they are now, on this record.
The mixes and mastering of the album are really good, whatever direction you want to focus your attention on, it won`t be a problem at all. You get smashed by dark and sinister riffs of the band instantly, some of those riffs sound particularly evil in songs like Clench The Flame or in heavier and a bit twisted song Goat Winged Hell Bomber. Also, very clean drumming has very good sound quality, many-ways growling vocals are very extreme, all sound really appropriate technically in music of the band, with sense that album sounds as best as it is now.
Music on one hand is very heavy, on the other hand, songs kind of have an evil substance that lurks in between musical ideas. Guitar shreds are brutal, dark and menacing. There is one or two tracks that more connect their music to past times of the band. There are some moments for head banging, like in the song Lynch Law that consists elements of death metal, slam death, grind and black metal. The other track - Darkness Grinds Within has some industrialized hard core and death metal riffs, which remind me few recent tunes of Napalm Death or Straight Hate. There is more blackened death metal song with some immolating death metal riffs, heavy guitar chords and anti-christian chorus, it is track with number 8. Song Necrocosm contains the meaning of what old school death metal is. I think opening track with repeatable chorus "Darkness Grinds Within" sounds sinister too.
Every time I hear guitar leads that illuminate music of the band, like for example in Kings Of Nihi, it constructs another dimension in band`s music, where band simply take time to deliver quality songs with a proper pacing. If you think it would not be enough, this album also has some black metal influence – not caused by sound (it`s surely more death metal), but more by intense shreds and baleful guitar textures that are there, nested in their songs. It all sound more terrifying if you will pay attention to lyrics, and intros too...
Darkness Grinds Within is another album this year that is just so important for me, for the reason that it`s one version of death metal that should be done as it is on this record - unique but not innovative death metal album where nothing should be changed.
