Gravestone
Proud To Be Dead
Sliptrick Records
And here is another band that is returning from the dead with new music. Their first and only EP was released back in 90`s but Gravestone was disbanded not long after the CD was out. They come back around 2013 and again, with shorter release which is this, 5 songs EP released in February this year.
Italian death metal is likely to have technical elements and Proud To Be dead is also this kind of record. As an addition to almost symphonic tracks they also have, Gravestone uses some studio generated orchestrations to intensify mysterious side of their music. If you like music soundtracks to Dario Argento movies then you can find some bits and pieces in their music inspired by Italian legends of horror, which, by the way is quite terrifying in music of Gravestone. The albums of Sadist have this vibe as well which I like very much.
Gravestone is a death metal (songs Proud To Be dead, Corpse Embodiment, Flagellation) but Eyes Without Sight song for example is so much heavy metal version of it and looking into it even deeper, it has so many cool elements of speed metal and classical music. One thing to keep in mind is that among few none-metal influences they have, they are still death metal band on the first place. It is nothing really obvious regarding this album if it comes to one specific genre. And it is something special and significant that attracts me to their music and only Italian bands have it.
I have found at least 4 + different styles of singing here. Those death metal vocals can be hardly surprised but the others have some spooky feeling which I am very grateful for (Matres-some echoes of Cradle Of Filth, Septic Flesh can be heard in this track).
This band is almost as good as Fleshgod Apocalypse when comes to quality of music and performance of songs itself. It is very vigorous music based on technical death metal. However the thought of it fades away once they accelerate music with so many tremendous influences and all what`s left is just entertainment and enjoyment to listen to this band.
The line-up:
Marco Borrani: Guitar
Gabriele Maschietti: Guitar
Maax Salvatori: Bass
David Folchitto. Drums
Fabrizio Di Carlantonio :Keyboards.
Alessandro Iacobellis:vocals
Tracklist:
1. Proud To Be Dead
2. Corpse Embodiment
3. Eyes Without Sight
