Geist
Swarming Season
Cursed Monk Records
When I first time heard this album I thought – they should play it to guys in Napalm Death and make them jealous of how great Geist sounds. I do not want to over think it but it is one of the best album productions I have heard from the band that comes from hard core punk and grind genre where the music suppose to be loud and noizzy. They are like that, of course, but you know, when the sound is crushing, chaos is under control, and the songs are the ones that I like to hear, then all of it just start to make a sense...
I do not know where they found their singer but his high pitched-screaming voice is a buzz, he delivers like he was radioactive - very original. It`s pretty cool that his vocals have been tracked down in the middle of the music - not totally up front but little backed off so I can fully enjoy music when his throat is being torn to pieces.
Sound of guitar is crusty and paralyzing with power of sound. Groove of music is levitating in the air. They sporadically play fast so, foremost it`s about song-writing, having heaviness in songs, advance quality drumming and delivering flow to layered music ideas which sound dimensional but at the same time very decent and approachable for the listener.
Swarming Season is a combo of different but relatively similar genres. Their songs have simplicity of punk and grind that sometimes takes turn on grind core with blast beats and towards aggression of hard core. Diversity and song structures are remarkable. Geist is as simple as they are complex with their music and I definitely am into this kind of album. It`s very good one and they brought two killer factors with it - the SOUND and the SONGS.
