Faunus
Where Everything Begins With The End
Independent CD
Visiting Athens once, I never felt any context of being a part of nature as I know it during countryside trips or mountain hike. This one man project fills that gap through sounds inspired by wilderness of Greece and metal. A name of this creative person who bravely takes all instrumental parts in his possession is Admetos and here is how he goes with his debut album.
As I could imagine reading song titles they are subjective view on seasons and what they reflects to his lyricists. As Seasons go in cycle every year there are 4 songs connected to each one.
1.Autumn - Death
2.Winter - Gestation
3.Spring - Birth
4.Summer – Maturation
Every song is over 10 minutes long and slowly burn atmosphere of the whole record. The record has doomy and gloomy music character. Often you can hear out many attributes of nature like rain, wind, thunder, animals and I like this approach by Faunus. As songs go on and calming you down... You might think you have been assimilated to grim beauty and sorrow of the music already... But all of a sudden, Faunus strikes with purity of black metal pretty aggressive and for the moments that feels like you are icebound somewhere in South Poland during Winter time. Those parts are different to what Greek bands used to being dedicated to, in the past that i remember. However, Faunus seduces you by long, slower parts, mostly. There is a space for fast and wild moments which I appreciate, too. Basically, doom and black metal win my attention that Faunus has to offer. Despising some imperfections in mixing all instruments, I consider this band`s music quite a journey.
So bad, the album has never being released with better sound as songs deserves it. Also production and final execution of tracks are away from decency and so needed quality. With all sympathy I hold for the music, I hardly see to ever come back to this album because of lack of professional mix and mastering and that`s a pity to his author.
