Dolina Cieni
Wzgórze Tysiąca Dusz
Independent CD
Here I have an album of local, heavy power death metal band and what I like about this is quite good studio production and proportion every instrument has been tracked down is very cool. That gives opportunities to guitarists to play mostly fast and energetic. Dolina Cieni has some fairy motives that pop up once for a while. A Hell lot of melodic vs. aggressive metal going on and either way they open up the gates for new experiences but not as far breathtaking. Drums and bass do what`s right to the character of the songs. I guess there was a musician invited to make keyboard parts and it is sometimes supportive to underline some ideas the band put on the CD but at some points that feels a bit off, kind of patching the music not involving in creating process of the music.
I have to mention vocalist who is very awesome when he is singing and his voice is clean and I like it pretty much. What I dislike is malicious death metal approach he is so tiresomely doing and ruins previous efforts so hard build- up to show proper face of the band. I think this type of vocals should be eliminated in this band completely as these characteristic rates down the band badly and not making much succession of it. It`s not getting much better with some lyrics consist such pessimistic, depressing as almost suicidal tensions and it sucks. Those few first songs are too dark and existential and stories not making me feel any better hearing it. I have not gone through such lyrics for long time and have strong aversion to some of it even if songs are pretty decent instrumentally. So pity that singer has fine potential vocals but often using inaccurate word expressions that brings you one way to extinction. Not all of the songs are like that but first impression counts and brings dark clouds over the band`s name. Very few times mood turns out better way only when Dolina Cieni is more in their dreamland themes and fantasies and once again this is much more like it.
My conclusion about the album is not in my opinion this time. This album is better and better toward the end and I can`t explain it. It`s there for you to pick your songs that best represents value of the album. I am not going to mention any of titles this time as it has too many question marks as for me and album is way too long to keep it tight in my mind for longer. I am sure that`d be much more on listeners favor if they have grown such band`s ability to choose only good songs with better, unreal lyrics so I could stop to object it anymore.
Marek Węgrzyn – voc
Marek Czarniak - guitar
Damian Łapa – guitar
Dawid Golonek – bass
Grzegorz "Beny" Szczygieł – drums
Nostttre – Keyboards
