Dira Mortis
Ancient Breath Of Forgotten Misanthropy
Selfmadegod Records
There are bands out there, in a wide metal community that always meet expectations when comes to playing certain type of death metal. Bands like Memoriam, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse evolve musically but always deliver songs that are true to their roots. You can easily add to these names Polish horde Dira Mortis. From the beginning of their musical journey (late 90`), they stick to old school death metal formula that has not changed drastically in their songs over the years. They instantly brings songs that you`d like to hear from them and not to be disappointed by it. They have done it once again, on this new, third album. Their death metal here sounds as old as the bones of your ancestors if you move them in their coffins, and there are also new guns in their line up: Vizun on drums and Kuba Brewczyński on vocals...Mścisław on bass, guitars and Leszek Makowiecki who plays guitars...
Ancient Breath Of Forgotten Misanthropy has two intros and actually only 5 regular songs, but length of these 5 compositions vary between 7 and 10 minutes, so, none of these tracks are shorter than 6 minutes. What is better about this album are middle and slow tempos when Dira Mortis in each and every song crafts a little their music on guitars. I am sure credits for that go to the main-man of the band Leszek Makowiecki who is in the band since the beginning. Wizun ( Moon, Deivos, Ulcer) also plays really good, structured drums along. Dira Mortis sounds like a dark old school death metal in the vein of European death metal (Asphyx) but on the other hand, their raw song writing reminds me American Incantation as well. It`s really hard to choose best songs off this record because they are kind in the same death metal vein. Dira Mortis beside many mid tempos in music, which I prefer, also goes with some fast drum beats throughout every song and then, they sound more chaotic, destructive by it, and kind of open the gates to more death metal madness musically. If I had to choose 2-3 songs that are interesting in terms of music ideas, guitar solos and atmosphere, these tracks are Worshipping The Terror Of Madness, Sepulchlar Maniac and a bit "Swedish" sounding track Forward To The Abyss Of Misanthropy. Kuba (also band Straight Hate), the new vocalist who made growls and naturally pitched screams for this album, his vocals sound to the bone death metal, with little echoes going on, which is nothing out of ordinary but job is well done.
Overall, the songs of this album sound kind of predictable, but if you don't care and all what counts is brutal, old school death metal, with shining in the dark guitar solos on top of music, then Dira Mortis won't let you down.
