Defiant
Morbid Spiritual Illness
Miner Records
Not sure if Balkan metal scene has any export bands out of their countries so everybody knows them. At least, Defiant is helping their luck and more metal heads can mind their name if you read this text now. This is band`s third album already and I do not know anything about condition of Croatian death metal so let Defiant being this band that serves for example.
I can certainly tell you this album is classic death metal with only minor development within a genre eventually. If you expect nothing but good fun listening to average death metal album then it`s there, for sure. If you want to challenge yourself and demand only albums that breaking boundaries then no way you can put this CD next to Gorguts for example. I like both scenarios in music but obviously first one is what the band is more familiar with.
This album is kind like ABC of death metal. Solid growls and cliché death metal riffs are everywhere and some are even good enough to kill in places. There is nice work between drummer and guitarists and they play their heavy, slaughter compositions quite to music note I like. Album is mid-speed paced with a few slower moments and sick melodies. It seems work very well in categories of just another death metal album and they are good in what they do. I do not point my finger to anybody for liking roots of death metal and making music based on it. I think it`s always good source of inspiration. But let`s be clear here. This CD is not even close to the biggest acts in death metal like Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated but their diversity and studio performance is very OK and I would not dislike it anyway.
