Dawn Ahead
A Trip Of Violence
Independent
The beginning of the EP simply forecasts the arrival of another thrash metal release. The sound of this material is at a very good level, so it's easy to focus on the music, because you can 100% rely on the studio production of A Trip Of Violence ...
The sound fits to their aggressive/melodic style of playing thrash metal but when singer has started off with growling vocals I was like WTF? It`s just feels wrong to put death metal vocals against thrash metal music. Fortunately, the band used growls occasionally which I consider as a relief. There are other - super pissed off vocals that sound better, however, few times just so so. It`s another reason that the formula of singing with clean vocals is always best. The vocalist in many moments saves the music from bad growls (Sinister Thoughts) and not always fortunate screams (A Trip Into The Dark, The One And Only). When it happens, he sings the refrains and part of his lyrics with clean vocals - it really works much better for the music of this band and to some extend, improves the quality of song writing.
A Taste Of Violence is very cool track with some Exodus, Overkill vocal/music attitude while the EP in general is influenced a bit by Bay Area thrash which is my favorite style out there. The Betrayal has melodic vocals which are those ones I would like to hear on this EP all the times, without interruptions. Capturing Hell sounds a bit like Metal Church/Metallica with cool lyrics and anger vocals but Dawn Ahead is such a creative band that I probably will not have to wait long to hear their more original style in the future.
This is pretty good thrash metal release when comes to instrumental side of music. Vocally, it usually works for me when it`s melodic, when it`s not, it's harder for me to like this album as a whole..
