Cruentus
Fake
Triple A Events Rec.
The Italian band Cruentus was founded in 1989, so I'm dealing with album of experienced musicians. Fake is the record that is very close to the tunes I value, which is thrash metal, the one that sounds unique. Do you remember an old Believer band? Many people called their songs techno-thrash and Cruentus plays a similar style with a progressive thrash influences (Voivod). In songs of Cruentus there is some methodical-mathematical perfection (Coroner, Allgebra). Fake is not a crazy fast album. Mid-tempos dominates here. The band gives themselves some time to adjust the potential of songs, hit with sound that shifts the energy and the band`s instrumental skills give their thrash metal songs something that you won`t hear from other bands every day.
A mid-paced song Circles remind me of Negatron and Phobos era by Voivod, so it`s the track where you can find yourself trapped in a realm of imaginary cosmic space. Love the song Spoil The Flesh with progressive guitar work, groove and where every riff kills for your hearing pleasure. Never Forget is a slow tune but the music ideas just glue my ears to the speakers. Passing Over is another Coroner sounding like song but Cruentus singer is more heck of the screamer than his Swiss colleague. I will remember Funambulism track for its guitar melodies the most. Shadows sound more like thrash-punk but underneath of the entire album sound and band`s arrangements there is always that incredible progressive edge. Incredible to hear that in track Blindness Means Watching, they just have a lot fun with playing music, creating sound layers and putting the drum passages to band`s finest performance. The Strain strikes once again with groove and track is more atmospheric, and sometimes, they just turn the song into raging tornado.
This is it metalheads. Never enough of progressive thrash. Fake is one of the strongest albums of 2019 in the genre.
