ColdCell
Those
Czar Of Bullets
ColdCell from Basel/Switzerland is a black metal band that keeps their songs in fairy unpleasant, dark realm but through music yet, they give me strong signals that they belong to post black metal scene already. Those more traditional, black metal elements can be found in ultra fast, and really chaotic drum blast beats with rather unclear tracks but I actually like it in this album. The other things are vocals, easily considered as black metal, but with desperate vocal inclinations and dose of experiments that they seek beyond black metal.. At least not necessarily everywhere. It is not first time I think that some Swiss band have vocals, possibly inspired by Nergal` singing that he performed on Satanist LP. I think music is somehow related to Behemoth as well but Those album is done a bit differently, like there is less spirituality but more technicality and experimental trials to it. However, I bet that a lot of people will find this album profound in many ways and in my opinion that won`t be wrong, either.
What leans ColdCell towards post metal are instrumental experimentation that bridge their strange industrial sounds to psychedelic ambient, rock but note that backbone of Those is primarily metal. The album production is moderate and the band leaves room for clear sounding metal, not overproduced but instead, Those has powerful tone that is pushed onto post metal. They have a lot of guitar driving songs that force desirable amount of intensity. You can find some extreme moments here but also those that indulge the pleasures of dark, atmospheric metal that tends to show no emotions whatsoever.
The album was recorded and mixed in Woodshed studio which was already visited by bands like Triptykon, Farsot among others.
The album cover has very interesting concept but to find out what it is, you need a copy in your hands which I recommend you to do so and listen to the band.
